MARTINS FERRY CITY SCHOOLS

NOTIFICATION OF A CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASE.

11-5-2020

Dear Purple Rider Community,

In keeping with Martins Ferry City School District’s practice to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families that two individuals at Ayers Elementary School are confirmed to have COVID-19. They were last present at Ayers Elementary School on Friday, October 30, 2020. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the names of the individuals or details that may identify them.

The contact tracing has been completed and the parents/guardians of the individuals deemed close contacts have been notified and the direct contacts have been picked up from school. The Belmont County Health Department has been notified and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the affected individuals.  All students and staff that came into close contact were directly notified and will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, and to limit any further spread.

In-person classes are cancelled for Friday, November 6, 2020 through Friday, November 13, 2020. This is being done in attempt to slow down the spread of the virus. We will continue our instruction using our fully remote platform. Students will access their curriculum through Google Classroom and Zoom. We will resume in-person instruction on Monday, November 16, 2020. We will keep you apprised of any further updates.

While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individuals have reason to be concerned, we ask that you, as always, watch for symptoms of COVID-19.

Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

·                     Fever of 100.4 or higher

·                     Headache

·                     Chills

·                     New loss of taste or smell

·                     Cough

·                     Sore Throat

·                     Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

·                     Congestion or runny nose

·                     Fatigue

·                     Nausea or vomiting or diarrhea

·                     Muscle or body aches

If you or any member of the Martins Ferry City School District community begin experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, we encourage you to contact your physician. We encourage anyone in the Martins Ferry Schools community who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 to please notify our school by contacting 740-633-1732.

Sincerely,

Jim Fogle, Superintendent

Martins Ferry City School District
