Confirmed COVID-19 Case -- MFMS
Posted on 11/01/2020

Dear Parent/Guardian:

In keeping with Martins Ferry City School District’s practice to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families that a person at Martins Ferry Middle School is confirmed to have COVID-19. This person was last present at Martins Ferry Middle School on Friday, October 30, 2020. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her.

The Belmont County Health Department has begun a case investigation and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the affected individual. All students and staff that came into close contact will be directly notified. Those that were in close contact will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, and to limit any further spread.

In-person classes are cancelled for Monday, November 2, 2020, to assist the Belmont County Health Department with contact tracing. Students are already scheduled to be off from school on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. As of now we will continue with in-person instruction on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. We will keep you apprised of any further updates.

While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, we ask that you, as always, watch for symptoms of COVID-19.

Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

  • Fever of 100.4 degrees of higher
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting or diarrhea

If you or any member of the Martins Ferry City School District community begin experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, we encourage you to contact your physician.

We encourage anyone in the Martins Ferry Schools community who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 to please notify our school by contacting 740-633-1732.
